Frontline Team Members are the face and voice of our brand… but our level of communication, understanding and engagement with them did not reflect that fact.  Netflix and Amazon know and engage with our Team Members better than we do…. But they don’t work for them.    That isn’t right – so we set out to fix it.
Every generation thinks the one that follows their own is weird and difficult to manage. Managing “Millenials” and “Gen Z” is no different. They are the majority of frontline employees in many high-turnover, service-related brands (restaurants, retail, etc). “Instantaneous” is the only meaningful time frame to a generation that doesn’t know a world without the Internet and socialized connectivity. Their career paths will be a long series of short-term employment relationships where they think “I wonder where this company will fit into MY life story?” Unlike previous generations that respect an “organizational chart” Millenials/Gen Z respect the control of resources, rewards and work conditions known as “transactional authority.” They are the “what’s in it for me” generation.
Whether we like it or not (or agree with it or not) they need:
  • To receive personal, short-term credit for doing the “grunt work,” not vague, long-term promises of rewards in some distant future.
  • Work to be fun, engaging and flexible.
  • Respect for what they bring to the table.
  • To understand their context and role in the bigger picture.
  • Access to decision makers.
  • To be taken seriously.
This session will feature the Shifthacker mobile app and will demonstrate the power of resonating and engaging the most important people in any customer service-focused brand: the frontline Team Members.
